About Me
My name is Tuomas Vahtola and I love tree planting! I was born in Toronto, grew up in New York, and currently live in San Diego, California. I spend my winters on the water, and my summers in the Canadian wilderness. My other hobbies are snowboarding, surfing, hiking, and traveling. Some great moments in my life include living on a sailboat, receiving my degree from the University of Victoria, and spending a summer bushwalking the White River National Forest. What motivates me to come back planting every year is the challenge it represents, the experiences that build you as a person, and the community of people you share lifelong memories with. |
Industry Experience
This will be my 5th season with Summit and 3rd as a crew boss. The crew I run is made up of an amazing group of people who work hard and work well in a fun atmosphere. Anyone who wishes to grow, learn more, or eventually become a leader in this industry is strongly recommended to apply to my crew.
What I expect from my planters:
RESPECT- The crew vision is focused around respect for each other and pushing each other through the toughest times. Upfront, I expect Inclusiveness and Teamwork. There is no room for discrimination or disrespect on my crew.
HARD WORK- What makes tree planting so difficult is the work you have to put in. I will be at your side putting in the hard work to make the most out of your season, and I expect the same from you. What I expect from you includes being a member of this crew, showing up on time, and honestly communicating with me.
POSITIVE ATTITUDE- We also have good times in the bush! Having a good head space and attitude out there turns your work into achievement instead of aggravation.
Each of us has goals, and we are all here to help make them prosper.
I will work nonstop to ensure you have loads of trees, fair prices, clear communication, and a comprehensively thought-out plan. It’s up to YOU to follow that plan and process so you can craft your best season every day on the block.
What my planters can expect from me:
SAFETY- No buts! My planters safety is my number one concern and priority. It will dictate the day’s plan from the moment we step into the trucks to the moment we sit down for dinner.
HARD WORK- My planters can expect a leader who will not stop until each of them are satisfied with what they accomplished this season. That takes hard work from me and you. I will provide knowledge, work ethic, and constant planning to make sure you can tell me your season was a success.
FUN- I believe a fun attitude towards what we do everyday is important. I am a provider of tree jokes and entertaining ways to get camp hyped. The work we do is not easy, so including fun along the way is a major part of my crew.
My planters can expect a leader who will plant with them, push them, listen to them, and restlessly try to make their summers as profitable as possible. We are a collection of unique people that came to the bush for a reason. We work hard but also celebrate the hard work we put in!
