About Me
After a fun-filled childhood in rural Nova Scotia, real life came knocking and I went to university to study Electrical Engineering. After graduating, I was unsure of what to do next and went tree planting on a whim. I had no idea what I was getting myself into and I fell in love. Great friends, plenty of exercise, time spent in nature, yummy food, lots of sunlight and a strong work ethic/sense of purpose. To me, this is everything I need to be happy, and keeps me coming back every year. Apart from planting, I like sailing, badminton and cooking/food. I also love to ski, which is why I currently work as a ski patroller in BC for the winter. I enjoy all things which are funny, so major bonus if you make me laugh. |
Industry Experience
I had 2 wonderful seasons as a planter at Summit. I found great success in those 2 seasons and as stated above I loved every minute of it. In my second season I was an assistant crew boss, rookie trainer, camp first aider and a primary driver. I have also done a season of fall coastal planting. This will be my first season as a crew boss. I’m excited to attack this new challenge with everything I’ve got.
Expectations from planters
My goal is to foster a tightly knit crew, where everyone feels fulfilled and happy with their work every day. A culture where we can all trust each other and everyone has each other’s backs. And finally a crew that works extremely hard day after day but still enjoys joking around and having fun.
● Teamwork - Tree planting is too hard of a job to go through it alone. We’re in this together and we need to be able to have each other's back. Supporting each other through the tough times will make the good times even sweeter.
● Work Ethic - You have to be willing to work hard every single day, and you have to have the drive and desire to want to be successful. This is the core of tree planting and how you make money.
● Honesty - Goes back to teamwork. Being honest with everyone allows us to build trust and grow as a team. I seek to create an environment where everyone feels safe to be honest and give constructive criticism at times.
● Respect - First we need to respect each other at all times. We also need to respect the job and our workplace. A level of professionalism is expected as this is our job and not summer camp.
● Fun - We’re gonna have lots of it.
What you can expect from me
My role as crew boss is to facilitate the safety and success of my crew
● Safety - No job is worth getting hurt over. I am a huge workplace safety advocate and will always fight for your safety. I also have some good experience as a first aider, managing tree planter injuries.
● Work Ethic - I will work extremely hard to ensure you have every opportunity to make money and achieve your goals.
● Transparency and Effective Communication - I will provide transparency to my crew as to what is going on, and why decisions are being made. I also seek to have clear and effective communication. This includes speaking and listening.
● Work Culture - Fostering a workplace where everyone feels happy and fulfilled every single day. A workplace where hard work and good times are had by all, and we all have each other’s backs.
Summary
Out of all the ways you can make money, this is a pretty good one. Tree planting has had a profound impact on myself and many others. Hard work, a strong sense of teamwork and some goofing around mixed in. If this sounds like your cup of tea, feel free to reach out directly and I’d love to chat about working with you next summer. Cheers!
