About Me
I’m a BC boy. Grew up in Kelowna riding dirt bikes, snowmobiles and skiing. In my early twenties I travelled the world playing rugby in 10+ countries. I have lived in England, New Zealand and Hong Kong, all while playing and coaching the sport I love. In 2020 COVID brought all of that to a halt and I came home to BC. I spent my first COVID winter skiing in Fernie and fell back in love with the mountains. I found myself surrounded by planters. Hearing the stories about what a tree planting season could have in store, I had to give it a try. How happy I am that I did. I’ve since spent my off seasons being a ski bum, exploring the backcountry huts via snowmobiling, touring and hiking. |
Industry experience:
My first year was in 2021. I joined a crew of vets that taught me how to plant a lot of trees quickly. 1
month in to my first season, I knew I wanted to have my own crew to coach and lead. When I left the
rugby world, I lost the team atmosphere I loved so much. I regained that community in a planting camp.
Another thing I loved about planting that relates to sport is the competition with yourself, a partner, the
camp or the company that can drive you to do better everyday.
In 2022 I got the opportunity to coach my crew as a crew boss. We finished top 5 in the company. I look
forward to being a part of many successful seasons in the future.
What to expect from me:
Trees. Whether I’m driving to the cache, ATVing through a swamp, carrying a box 500m to the back of
your piece, uphill…I thrive on getting trees to you guys.
On time. 5 minutes x 60 planting days = 5 hours/bagups lost. For top planters, that’s a 350.00 loss. It’s a
short season, I want you to get the most out of it.
Safety. The policies are not just words on a page. It is my responsibility to get you home safe every day,
and at the end of it all, home to your loved ones.
Fun. Crew games on nights off, dress up block days, crew adventures on days off. If I’m not working my
butt off, I’m celebrating with the crew.
Incentives. I got a tattoo on my bum for the first 50,000 trees planted in a day. What will it be this
year??
What I expect from you:
Teamwork. A full crew loading 138 boxes is a lot quicker than 3 planters. Taking your stuff out of the
trucks saves the driver an hour of cleanup on day off. Camp moves – the quicker camp is set up the
quicker we’ll all be sitting around the fire.
Production and quality. Get better everyday. Whether it's by a little or by a lot, have a goal. It can be
faster flagging, fewer shovel strikes, improving land management or learning how to eat your lunch
without chewing.
Safety. We're in the middle of nowhere. We’ve got to have each others backs.
Fun. Tree planting is so special because its not just about being out there on the block. You get to hang
out with some of the coolest people you’ll every meet. Enjoy those nights off after doing some of the
hardest work you may have ever done.
On time. Do I need to do anymore math? Don’t let the crew down.
