About Me:
All the way from Bradford, Ontario, I spent my childhood doing competitive dance and being outdoors as much as I could. As I got older I got into hockey, rugby, ultimate frisbee and powerlifting. I have recently completed my undergraduate degree from Queen’s in biochemistry and am currently working towards my commercial helicopter pilot’s license (strange switch, I know). I got into tree-planting unexpectedly after my third year at school and absolutely fell in love! I’ve spent the last two years picking up as much experience and working as many contracts as I was able. Being outside, working hard, solving problems and pushing yourself beyond what you think is possible has me itching to come back every season! Outside of the bush, I enjoy exercising, reading, music, camping and anything that keeps me active and outdoors. I will take any opportunity to spend some time outside, and am particularly excited if that outdoor time involves putting some trees in the ground. I always welcome challenges and enjoy all the problem-solving that comes with planting trees. I would even go so far as to say it’s a passion. I hope to share that passion with you and show you this crazy, difficult, beautiful bush-world! |
Industry Experience:
Throughout my planting career, I have been a rookie trainer, primary/secondary driver, crew/camp first-aider and have picked up some assistant crewboss work. I have also run a few special-missions with small crews. I have also worked some additional contracts in Alberta and BC doing some habitat restoration and coastal-style planting.
What You Can Expect from ME:
I work for YOU just as much as you work for me. I want to work my hardest to have my planters be successful, feel good about the work they’re doing and be motivated and happy while doing it.
SAFETY!: Safety is huge for me. We definitely take some risks planting trees and I want to take as many steps as I am able to decrease that risk to everyone on the crew. I will do my best to identify potential hazards and want to know if something doesn’t feel safe. I also want you to feel safe about communicating and expressing yourself. I am committed to a work environment that is safe and free of discrimination!
Respect: I have a ton of respect for this job and the work we do. I also carry endless respect for the people who do this job and do it well - I strive to put my best foot forward to be the best leader and motivator I can. I will respect your time and effort.
Accountability and Communication: I have included these together because I believe they are complementary. I will take accountability for my actions and want to have open conversations with my planters about things that are going well and things that aren’t. I always welcome feedback and discussion.
Hard work: I am a keener! I will leave everything out on the block and put my best effort forward. Always.
Initiative: I’ll be an active member of the community on the block, in camp, around the dinner table, get ready to see a bunch of me doing as many random jobs as I can!
Fun: Keeping a positive mindset can sometimes be a bit tough during the season, but nothing some fun can’t cure! Know that I will always be around to sprinkle some fun (and weird dance moves) on any rainy day.
What I expect from YOU:
Safety: I expect you will do the work with the correct consideration for safety. I also expect you won’t be taking any unnecessary risks to yours or the crew’s safety to accomplish a goal.
Respect: Treat the work you do with respect. Respect yours and other people’s time by being on-time and prepared. Put a genuine effort into your work quality and be proud of it! Additionally, we will be living in a camp where we will need to respect the people, space and tools we have in our area.
Accountability and Communication: Be true to the trees you plant, and accountable for your quality. I would like to see honest communication with me, yourself and the crew to find what works best and most efficiently.
Hard work: I want to see some genuine hard work. This job is not easy and I expect you will put your best foot forward and leave it all on the block. 100% looks different for each person, every day. I know that our ability to show up changes, and our maximum effort looks differently day-to-day. I ALWAYS want to see 100% effort, no matter what that looks like.
Initiative: There are a lot more things to do out here than just planting trees - I expect my planters to be active participants in the work that needs to be done on and off the block.
Fun: We’re going to need crew nicknames, at least one wacky crew chant and a few wacky day-off outfits…any ideas?
Any of those look similar? I like to lead by example, and I want you to know that whatever you are doing, I’m right there beside you doing it too coaching you through! We are a team, and even though we work individually to plant our trees, I want to create an environment where, as a crew, we feel safe and motivated to work together as a unit to accomplish our goals and have a great season! Now, let’s make some big bucks, have bigger laughs and POUND!
