About Me:
I’m Asha! I was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. I grew up camping, hunting, hiking and exploring Alberta, B.C and beyond with my parents and two brothers. I am currently in my third year pursuing a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Forest Conservation and Visual Art at the University of Toronto. I also love skateboarding and will definitely play you in skate. My parents met while tree planting, so I grew up listening to their stories of back-breaking work and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. It was inevitable that I would try tree planting, and I was hooked after my first season. I love every aspect of planting, from the hard days when you must dig deep to keep going, to the accomplishments and celebrations (both personal and crew/team) that build such incredible camaraderie. I especially appreciate the perspectives and insights shared with me by other team members which have helped me become a better human. Planting rocks! |
Industry Experience:
The 2022 planting season will be my third year working in the bush and it’s going to be my best yet. I spent the past two seasons working as both a planter and an assistant crew boss. I took on the roles of primary driver and rookie trainer in my second season. I have led special missions with great planters and have always sought out opportunities to learn new skills whether related to fixing things around camp or setting up a block for planting. I hold myself to a high standard and will serve my crew well this coming season!
What my planters can expect from me:
Safety - Our safety is paramount, and as a leader that will always be the highest priority for me. We will work safely and efficiently to achieve our goals.
Respect - We are going to be working and living together every day for months. I will always show you respect both as a colleague and as a person. I will not tolerate disrespectful behavior.
Commitment - When I do something I give it my all. I am going to give you my best effort when it comes to every aspect of this job. You are going to experience me working and laughing my hardest!
Support - You can expect my full support. Planting is an incredibly hard job both mentally and physically, and it is important that everyone receives the support they need to be successful. Whether you are having issues reaching a new personal best, struggling with some aspect of camp life or are nursing a physical injury, I will give you my full support.
Coaching – This applies to all skills that are relevant to your role as a planter and any other relevant roles you seek while we are working together. I will never stifle an opportunity to learn. For the past eight years I have coached gymnastics, which has given me a massive amount of experience learning how to help others train their bodies and minds to complete difficult skills and execute them to the best of their ability. I will coach you mentally and physically to be the best planter you can be!
Organization - I will be on time and I will always have a plan! The more organized we are the more time we will have to plant and make that cash money. Every minute counts!
What I expect from my planters:
Safety - I expect that you will adhere to the rules and procedures that are put in place to protect you. With your support we will have the best season possible!
Respect - Having respect for the people you work with makes you a better team player. Having a crew that works well together and enjoys being together makes the experience so worthwhile! I expect planters to be on time, to share the burden of tasks we must complete to be able to plant and to treat each other with kindness.
Commitment- I expect you to be in it for the long haul! Together we will have a full and prosperous season. I want to work with planters who are committed to reaching their full potential by staying until all the trees are planted. I also expect planters to set goals and commit their full effort to achieving those goals.
Positivity - Planting is the hardest job there is. It would be unrealistic to ask you to always smile and not to struggle… because you will struggle. I expect that you will show up for work every day, all season long with willingness and all the optimism you can provide. Believing that you can do better is optimism, and it’s the first step toward achieving your full potential. And who doesn’t want that?! 😊
