Kyle Ellsworth
About Me: I am from the small city of Summerside, Prince Edward Island. Working in reforestation has been one of the most incredible things I have ever done, but it has also been one of the hardest. I enjoy this balance, and I look forward to it every year. When I’m not planting, I spend my time in woodworking/heritage restoration and hanging out with my Lab Retriever Nelly. |
Education:
Bachelors of Science, Major Biology, Bishop’s University
Masters of Science, Molecular Biology, University of Cologne, Germany
Heritage Carpentry, Algonquin College
Summit History and Industry History:
2021 will be my 6th year working at Summit. Like many planters, I was introduced to the industry by a good friend (Thanks Barb) and spent my first few years planting with a great crew of people who I still work with today (Thanks Andre). After planting, I worked as a checker (Thanks Bryn) for a couple of seasons ensuring quality control and helping run camp. Also, I’ve carried industry first aid (OFA3) certificates, and have been Camp Primary First Aider.

Goals and Expectations:
Each day we work in challenging environments under challenging conditions. There’s no secret to how hard tree planting is. For everyone to be successful, we need to work hard every day while practicing safety. But this doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy our jobs; I love working in reforestation and the challenges we face every day. Our job is also remarkably communal, and we must be respectful and excellent to one another, even on the rainiest of days.
