About Me:
I grew up in the suburbs of Toronto. I spent most of my time camping, hiking and doing all kinds of sports before going to Queen’s University. It took me until my third year to discover planting, where I learned I could do everything I loved while also working. Since graduating from Queen's, I spend my summers in the planting industry and my off season travelling and snowboarding. |
Industry Experience:
I have planted with Summit for 5 seasons now, where I spent the last two as an assistant crew-boss and rookie trainer. This past year I also got into coastal planting in spring and fall. Outside of planting, I have also started contract wildfire fighting, and did a few months of other assorted winter bush work. I LOVE tree planting, and that’s why for me it is no longer just a summer job, or a vacation from my real life; it is my real life and I’m looking forward to sharing that passion with all of you!
What I expect from my planters:
Effort: What I’ve learned over many years as a planter is that everybody picks up planting at a different pace, and this does not dictate how successful they will be in the long run as a planter. A successful planter is one who works hard, and gives 100% of their effort every day.
Respect: When living and working in such a close knit environment, respect is the most important thing. This means respecting everyone in camp for who they are, respecting people’s time, and respecting yourself.
Honesty: Every person needs different things to succeed, and I expect my planters to be open and honest with me about our work so I can make their experience tree planting as good as it can be.
What my planters can expect from me:
Hard Work: After 5 seasons of being a high production planter, I know what it means to work hard, and it’s one of the things I love about this job. I can promise you that I be working as hard as I can to help you succeed, both on and off the block.
Support: My job as a crew boss is to facilitate the most successful season possible for each and every one of my planters. I will do that by supporting them in any way they need - be that by giving them tips on how to improve, moving trees for them, or by giving them a sympathetic ear and someone to vent to.
Communication: I will always be open and clear about my expectations of you as a planter, and what I need from you in order for us both to succeed.
