Jackson Moores
About Me: I am Nova Scotian born and raised. Moved out to Ontario and got myself a degree in history from the University of Waterloo. Upon graduation I was firmly bitten by a travel bug that took me many beautiful places; Alaska to Turkey, Iceland to Guatemala and many more. International travel gave way to domestic expeditions which quickly transformed into a small career in guiding. Whether it was Ontario canoe tripping, sea kayaking off Vancouver Island or ocean and mountain travel in Alaska, this work developed a real love in me for wild places. Which eventually brought me tree planting. |
Industry Experience:
I started tree planting in 2012! I was a successful planter for years and know what it takes, inside and out to be a solid planter. I was a checker for a season, checking provided beneficial experience and perspective on managing planters, as well as, blocks. Now I am going into my fifth season as a crew boss, last year was a very successful season for the crew and things are shaping up even better this year!
My Expectations of Planters:
My goal is to foster a crew with a culture of fun, respect, and positivity. Hard work is critical, really hard work. Professionalism as well, this is a job, not camping trip, the goal is to achieve efficiency and profitability, I want my crew to do that with style.
What you can expect from me:
As the manager of the crew there are many essential expectations. First and foremost: safety. The points mentioned above are crucial contributors to a safe and healthy workplace but are only valid when accompanied clear, helpful communication and robust block logistics.
Summary:
If you want a challenging experience that is dirty, sweaty and often uncomfortable but can fill your bank accounts with money, come tree planting. If you want to be part of a community based on respect, fun and collective hard work, contact me. If you want a leader that is respectful, transparent and willing to work with you to make the absolute most out your season, contact me. If you want to make well-earned money with an experienced crew boss on a vet crew, contact me.

- Attitude: The lynchpin of a planting crew. If you are negative or shitty that will seep into the folks around. No beuno! Planting can be extremely challenging, physically and mentally. Through it all I expect an air of respect for everyone. We are all in this together, through mutual support we can create positive vibes and unity and it all starts with a good attitude.
- Hard Work: Like really hard. There is a baseline expectation that everyone shows up to work every day and gives their fullest amount of effort. Hard, consistent work; that is what it takes to be a tree planter and that is how you make money.
- Hard Work: Re-read the point above.
- Professionalism: We may live in tents but we will be professionals and make it look good. This involves being on time, punctuality is paramount. Be ready, this transcends food, water and gear and loops back to attitude; we're all in this together. Essential under professionalism is self-care, which is unique to each of us individually, everyone must be able to recharge and take care of themselves so when you come to plant you are ready, inside and out.
- Fun: Tree planting is hard, so let's make it fun. Celebrate good days, celebrate the end of bad days. Tree planting is a unique experience and as much as I need all my planters to leave with a badass looking bank account, I need everyone to finish the season with positive memories and a happy heart.
